Mind at Play

ABQ Balloon Fest 2012 - Andrea Beltran

I’ve been reading Roethke. I’ve been rereading Roethke. These lines speak to me:

The loneliest thing I know

Is my own mind at play.

– from “His Foreboding”

Do we move toward God, or merely

Another condition?

– from “Mixed Sequence”

Being, not doing, is my first joy.

– from “Mixed Sequence”

What lines speak to you this week?

  1. A few lines from “Preludes,” the first poem in Tomas Transtromer’s first book:

Waking up is a parachute jump from dreams.
    ***
In day’s first hours consciousness can grasp the world
as the hand grips a sun-warmed stone.

  2. Some lines from David Mills, The Dream Detective. But now I can’t find the ones! That’s because I’ve been reading it without my pencil, on the bus…. When I find/remember, I will come back. I have always loved Roethke also. 🙂
